Greetings Blizzard Snowmobile Club Members!

I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas!  Our next meeting is Monday January 3rd at 7:30p in the Sisseton Room at the Holiday Inn. Come ring in the new year with us!

Well, the month on December started out kind of promising with a couple good snow events, but much of it has disappeared with the warm weather and Christmas rain.  The groomer did make it out a couple times, but we need more snow to get across the fields.

We have a couple things happening in January…

Mark Drever and Duffy Post are heading up Snowmobile Safety Training on Sat January 7th.  The class is at the Fairmont Elementary School in Cafeteria A from 9-12. Students must complete one of the online courses: snowmobilecourse.com (fee for the course is $29.95 *family/group pricing) or snowmobile-ed.com (fee for the course is $29.50) before signing up for the class.  We will need a couple more volunteers to help out.  This is a great opportunity to get more people involved in the Club.

The Icekahanna and NSSR speed run (includes pro and fun run tracks) is set for January 28th on the south end of Hall Lake.  We will be using the Yacht Club again this year for registration and food. Registration starts at 8:00 with racing starting at 10:00.  Please come out and help and bring your sleds to have some fun too!  This is a great event to help get our name out there and get people interested in snowmobiling!  Back up date for if we have a storm/wind is the following day (1/29). We will need some cold weather to help make some more ice.

I talked with Anna Garbers with Kinship.  We have tentatively planned the ride for Sunday January 22nd at 1pm at Cedar Park. We will need lots of club members to show up with sleds.  She said the program has really grown the last couple of years and there are lots of kids excited for this event.  If you have extra helmets please bring them.

Last meeting there was some more discussion on looking into the possibility of swapping some of the “south loop” miles south of Fairmont in order to establish a trail from Welcome to Sherburn.  We have a committee working on a potential route and compiling a list of land owners we would need permission from.

Couple dates to put on your calendars…

January 7th Snowmobile Safety (must take online class ahead of time)

January 22nd Kinship Ride @ 1:00
January 28th NSSR and Icekahanna Races

Thank you for being a club member!  Invite a friend to the meeting, encourage young people to become involved, and Like/Follow/Share the Blizzard Snowmobile Club on Facebook!  There was even some talk last meeting about us getting on Instagram and Twitter since we learned “Facebook is for old people”!  Stay tuned…

See you at the meeting on Monday night!
